Having that same fight, again?

Couples Therapy that’s Practical and Deep, so You Can Communicate Smarter and Rekindle Your Spark

In-person therapy in Oakland and online throughout California

Houston, the Lines of Communication are Down!

It boggles your mind: How can it be so damn difficult to have a simple conversation with your partner?

Worry churns in your stomach at the thought of bringing up even a small issue because it could quickly spiral into something much bigger.

You love your partner, and you want to make this relationship work, but you just can’t keep having the same fights over and over without making any progress.

What once felt like exciting cultural differences between you now only seem to widen the gap of miscommunication and hurt.

Distraught because you don’t feel understood or appreciated by your partner, you find yourself retreating into your phone instead of initiating conversation.

You teeter between feeling hopeless that you’ll be stuck in this conflict cycle forever, and feeling terrified that you’re headed toward a breakup and will end up alone.

No One Taught You How to Communicate

Your parents sure as hell didn’t model good communication, with their icy standoffs or explosive rage-fests.

School teaches math and English, but communication and strategies to navigate conflict? Nah.

You’ve read some self-help books and it all sounded great in theory, but once you’re actually in it with your partner all those lessons just fly out the window.

Maybe you’ve even tried therapy before, but one of you wasn’t really invested or the therapist just didn’t have the right tools to help.

Which leaves you where, exactly? Frustrated and hopeless after hitting a communication wall again, and not knowing where to turn.

Hi, I’m Katherine… And I’ve Been There

After having our first kiddo, my partner and I were in struggle city.

Instead of feeling like we were on the same team caring for our new human, we often felt like competitors facing each other down in a brutal standoff.

Navigating the daily household tasks together was challenging, and having the big conversations became impossible.

We realized we needed support.

Couples therapy transformed our relationship from brittle and resentful to tender, caring, and connected.

Now, another baby later, things still get hard. But, thanks to the skills we learned in therapy, we are able to communicate our needs and desires, and trust that we’ll each be heard and supported.

That’s why I’m on a mission to help couples get beyond their defensiveness and resentment to rediscover their compassion and connection.

I’m a psychotherapist with 6+ years of experience and a Masters in Counseling Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies. With in-depth training in Gestalt psychotherapy, I have supported nearly 100 clients on their healing journeys.

I’m Mexican American and moved to the US when I was 10. I love supporting Latinx, bicultural, and queer couples. Speak Spanish or Spanglish? Bienvenides!

Couples Counseling with Katherine

My unique therapy approach combines the best of everything I’ve learned in grad school, tons of trainings, and 6+ years of experience, with my big ol’ compassionate heart and silly personality.

I help couples on the brink of communication breakdowns achieve deepened understanding, intimacy, and trust through counseling that blends practical communication strategies with deep emotional explorations.

What My Clients Are Saying

  • "When we started counseling, our relationship was a mess.

My partner had just cheated on me and I was spiraling with anxiety. Katherine helped us each shine a light on ourselves to understand what was happening. Now we’re better equipped to get through the hard conversations and we trust each other more.”

    - Coaching client G.

  • “I’m so glad we found Katherine.

“We had just gotten back together after a nasty breakup, and we had a pattern of avoiding hard conversations. Katherine is so calm and non-judgmental that it helped me feel that way too. Now I have strategies that I can use to calm myself down before I even talk to my partner, which means that he can hear me out better.”

    - Coaching client R.

  • "I think everyone should do couples therapy!

It sucks to have tough conversations, but with Katherine there it feels easier to say the difficult things. She helps us with specific ideas for how to talk to each other better.”

    - Coaching client S.

Let's Face It: Your Poor Communication is Costing You

You've waited this long to seek out great relationship therapy because, frankly, it seems expensive.

But what's the cost of the tension you carry in your shoulders and the tightness in your throat because you’re walking on eggshells trying to avoid another fight?

… Or the loneliness that swamps you lying in bed next to the person you’re supposed to be connected to but who feels farther away than an outer planet?

... Or missing out on that dreamy vacation because the idea of spending five days alone together makes your stomach want to collapse into a tight ball?

You could keep doing what you're doing, and stay stuck where you are…

Or you could throw in the towel and pay tens of thousands of dollars to divorce attorneys...

Or…

You could finally invest in getting the support you deserve with high-quality therapy tailored just for you.

I charge clients $250 per session because I want the healing and growth I experienced in relationship therapy to be accessible to those who are really ready for change.

I only offer my services to clients who I think I can truly help, and who are motivated to do the nitty gritty work it takes to confront themselves so they can show up as the partner they want to be.
